Rick was born in Gnaw Bone, Indiana, and came to know the Lord at age six in the Gnaw Bone Wesleyan Church. Clara was born in Brazil, Indiana, where at 19 she gave her heart to the Lord in the Jackson Street Wesleyan Church. They met while preparing for missionary service at Frankfort Wesleyan Bible College and were married in 1969. After serving for three years as pastor in Indiana, Rick and Clara served as Wesleyan missionaries with Global Partners in Peru, South America, from 1975-1994. Rick was appointed to serve as the Latin America and Caribbean Area Director from 1995-2008. They lived in Costa Rica from 1997-2004 while serving as area director.
Currently, Rick is serving as coordinator for the Ibero-America Wesleyan Fellowship. The purpose of the fellowship is to link Wesleyan ministries in all Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries in a step toward internationalization. The fellowship is an umbrella organization for the “next generation mission outreach” by Latino missionaries in Bolivia, Cuba, Spain, and Equatorial Guinea, the only Spanish-speaking country in Africa. The fellowship also links ministries in the areas of theological education, ministries to Wesleyan youth, and the Ibero-America Wesleyan Women’s board. In the United States, Rick represents Global Partners to the Wesleyan Hispanic congregations.
Clara’s ministry includes serving as a consultant to the Ibero-America Wesleyan Women’s board, an administrative assistant to Rick; and a communication coordinator with their support team.
